This event was the perfect opportunity for final year and masters students to showcase their work in progress and network with industry. It provided a taster of what our final showcase later in the year will be, and gained interest from professionals across the design industry.
We started off the Pop Up on Thursday evening with talks from industry professionals that was open to students and industry, with canapés and drinks. We hosted inspiring talks from 3 Brunel Design Alumni; Jo Barnard - the creative director of Morrama studio, Ben King - the co-founder of Koa, and Lauren Bell - the founder of CosiCare.
These talks were a great opportunity to listen to each of their journeys and find out more about their experiences in the design industry.
On Friday we opened during the day to welcome students and industry visitors. Several of the final year design students hosted short workshops on art and design skills they enjoy both inside and outside of University; Connor Richey introduced visitors to lino printing, Hannah Coombs ran a calligraphy and brush lettering workshop, and Pippa Copeland and Katie Price passed on their skills in hand rendering.
These workshops were a lovely way to wrap up our event and allowed visitors to get hands on with design and take away their own lino prints, hand-lettered cards and rendered drawings. It also was exciting for the final year students to pass on their passion and knowledge to students who may well choose to study design.
We hope everyone who came along enjoyed the Pop Up, and are looking forward to the final showcase on 18-21st June 2020!
