  • New Designers

    7 July 2008

The Made in Brunel 2008 Exhibition took place at the Business Design Centre between the 10th and 12th of June, for those of you that came along...thanks...it was great to see you! We’re not too shy to admit that we liked the attention and it was great to make some new friends.

Since we packed the show away we’ve been pretty busy, you know, important stuff like celebrating our degree results, visiting Glastonbury, oh and watching Wimbledon. We’ve also been preparing for New Designers and have been being snapped up for interviews by employers as savvy as Linda in recognising the quality of Engineering and Design graduates who have been Made in Brunel in 2008.

So for those of you who couldn’t make it to the Business Design Centre for The Exhibition (you know who you are) we’re giving you another chance: We’ll be at New Designers Part Two, at the Business Design Centre between the 10th and 13th of July. We can’t wait to see you, in the meantime here are some of the individuals and their projects you can expect to find!

  • Made in Brunel Goes Green

    18 April 2008

Every year Made in Brunel produces a book to support the show. We were introduced to Seacourt by Nic from the Creative team, who had worked with them before. From the very first conversation we had with them we knew we were talking to the people we wanted to work with. Lynda from Seacourt was down to earth and full of advice, she came down with a box of samples and met us for coffee. We talked as much about what we do as Made in Brunel as we did about spot colours and paper stock.

Seacourt also shared our concerns about the environmental impact of printing. Talking to Lynda we learnt just how damaging the printing industry is. A Global Risk Management company recently classed the print industry in the same environmental risk category as the Mining, Oil and Nuclear Power industries. As designers it is down to us to make decisions that won't have a future impact, it was crucial that our printing was produced in the most environmentally responsible way.

So like all the best decisions, we went on gut instinct and chose Seacourt. They will be printing the Made in Brunel 08 Book, which will be Carbon Neutral, printed on 100% recycled FSC paper with vegetable oil based inks and 100% renewable energy, using zero alcohol waterless offset and emitting no nasty VOCs. It doesn’t get any better or greener than that (with a splash of orange too, of course).

  • Made in Brunel | 08 Launch

    5 December 2007

We have officially launched Made in Brunel | 08. The launch event was held in the atrium of the new Michael Sterling Building at Brunel University on Wednesday 5th December.

At the event we introduced the Made in Brunel | 08 brand, reinforcing the existing Made in Brunel image to staff and students of the School of Engineering and Design and the University as a whole.

Two members of our team: Fergus Bisset and Ro Monnington presented; speaking about the background of Made in Brunel, our international links and sponsors and our aims for this year.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Chris Jenks concluded the presentation; talking about the importance of Made in Brunel to the University and its ties with key organisations in the industry.

The event was a great success, demonstrating the professionalism of the design and engineering students at Brunel University and setting the scene for the exhibition in June.
