The Humanitarian Hearing Aid is designed to be remanufactured from unused, yet perfectly functional NHS hearing aids and distributed in less economically developed countries. The aim is for the hearing aid to be suitable for use straight after delivery with diagnosis and fitting carried out by the user whether or not they have a medical background.

It is specifically for high frequency noise induced hearing loss and Afganistan was chosen as a territory to focus the design. The electronics will remain the same and the body has been redesigned to suit the climate and services of the destination country.
