YONE SANTANA

MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN BSc

I've been drawing since I was young and I've had the fortune of working as a Concept Artist, Animator and Web Designer. I was born in London but grew up in Spain and studied Architecture in Madrid and Illustration. I came back to the UK to study Multimedia at Brunel as I wanted pursue a career in Digital Animation.

During my placement at Lightmaker Tunbridge Wells Ltd. I had the chance to work for clients like Adobe, Samsung, Nintendo, EA Games and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, for Time Warner.

What I love about character animation is that it's an ongoing process: from the initial conception of an idea, through sketches to the final rendered 3D animation. Multimedia is a great field because it allows me to bring together different techniques from traditional art and blend them with technology to create something unique and very personal.

Catching Moments

My interest in multimedia is to create methods of combining different forms of media and to study the overlapping “Grey” areas where similar cross media communication methods coincide.

The project juxtaposes animation and illustration to tell a single story. Joining these two media approaches creates a new experience that is not a sequence of still images nor a completely animated film. It is a blend of both, integrated by using digital techniques: 3D character animation, Digital illustration and Compositing.

The end result is a participative experience where the whole story is split into two parts that complement each other. One; the visual narration through actions, present in the animation and the other; the contemplative quality of the key moments in that story, present in the illustrated panels. Both illustration and animation are presented side by side for the purpose of comparing the similarities and differences between both.

Capturing the user's imagination will complete the story. This is achieved by separating the narrative focus present in both parts. They must mentally create the connections that allow the envisioning of the story as a whole.
